The Farm in Glenville is known for their artisanal preserves, and beautiful farm-to-bar chocolates. Their products are made from scratch, using what they grow on their farm. The brainchild of Nikkey Elizabeth, the farm is operated by Nikkey and her husband, Douglas. Nikkey then produces all their beautiful, unique farm-to-table products. She takes great care to create products that are natural, intricate, and beautiful.
She often hears that her chocolates are too pretty to eat. Her response is simple: If you are what you eat, you should only have the most beautiful, wonderful foods. She’s on a mission: it’s simple, really – beautiful food for beautiful people, because we are worth it.
Nikkey and Douglas use traditional and ecological farming practices to grow their fruits, vegetables, and flowers, which Nikkey uses to make farm-to-table preserves, chocolates, and confections. The adaptation needed with farming guides her creative process––so products change with harvests.
They have over twelve varieties of preserves available in individually or in sets. Preserves include traditional Cape Breton favourites such as Strawberry, Blackcurrant, Raspberry, Strawberry Rhubarb Jam and Green Tomato Chow Chow as well as Red Pepper Jelly and many other varieties.
Chocolate is made from cocoa beans, sourced from small-scale farmers, and refined with their fruits, seeds, peppers, and ginger. Products include bars, assorted flavoured tasting squares.Inclusion bars with candied fruits, seeds, turmeric, ginger, finished with glazed edible flowers. Finally, they have assorted filled chocolates, many hand painted with cocoa butter to make products are that are unique, delicious, edible art.
In season, they also bring their surplus harvests to our local market, the Mabou Farmers’ Market, which include strawberries, raspberries, and other berries from their farm.
